Check your level of English
How does the level check work?
- 1
Leave your name and e-mail address
You get the test straight away, and the link by e-mail as well, so you can also take it later, on a computer or a phone.
- 2
Take the test
The questions get harder or easier depending on your answers. Short reading and listening tasks follow. The instructions in the test are in English.
- 3
See your result and choose an exam
At the end of the test you see your level. Enter it in the plan below and you will get a suggested exam and next steps.
Ask for the test
The test opens from your personal link. That is why we need your name and e-mail address.
Have your result? Make a plan
A result of B1+ or B2+ means you are past that level and on the way to the next one: as an adult, choose B1 or B2 respectively in the plan.
- B2
- C1
The goal for secondary school students is B2 First, as preparation for the higher-level matura, and then C1 Advanced, a common requirement for university admission abroad.

About the test
The test is called NGPT (Next Generation Placement Test). We developed it at Jantar – International House Split with the company Amber IT Solutions, and language schools use it to place new learners in courses.
The test does not replace an exam and does not give you a certificate. It shows the level you are at now, accurately enough for you to choose an exam and a way to prepare.
For children in the lower years of primary school, their teacher is the best judge of their level.
Questions about the level test
Is the test really free?
Yes. You pay nothing and you do not commit to anything.
Why do you ask for my e-mail address?
The test opens from a personal link, which we send you by e-mail. After the test we can also send you advice about the exam and preparation. We use your details only for that; the details are in the privacy policy.
How accurate is the test?
It places you at one of eight levels from A1 to C2, including the in-between levels B1+ and B2+. That is enough for choosing an exam. Only an exam gives final proof of your level.
